2010 Tour of the Murray River professional road cycling classic embraced 6 municiple councils in Victoria and New South Wales. Australia's longest road cycling event, started in Echuca on Sunday August 29th with competitors racing the 154 kilometres to Rochester. On Monday 30th, a 30 kilometre Criterium in Echuca, followed by 100 kilometre road race at Moama.

Tuesday 31st August and competitors saddle up agin for a 45 kilometre Criterium at Swan Hill, before moving out to the small community of Lake Boga for yet another Criterium this time over 39 kilometres. The first day of Spring saw our cyclist head off from Swan Hill on a 103 kilometre road race to Nyah West, via Woorinen South, Chillingollah, Chinkapook, and Towan Plains. If that wasn't enough work for one day the guys stepped up again in the afternoon for another road race, Nyah to Managatang via Wood Wood and Piangil.

 

Thursday 2nd September, amother river town another race, this time 20 lap Kermesse, on a 2.4 Kilometre river front circuit in the beautiful little town of Robinvale, followed by a 52 kilometre Criterium around the NSW township of Euston, which is just across the Murray River from Robinvale. This afternoons race packed with 16 sprint races, a chance for the sprinters to pile on some points.

Friday 3rd, and the 500 strong Tour of the Murray River teams, officials and supporters are in Ouyen for yet another Criterium around the streets of this remote Mallee township which is located on the Calder Highway. Also a chance for Vanilla Slice lovers to go mad an hop into a Vanilla Slice or two. As Ouyen was holding its annual Vanilla Slice Triumph festival. Following lunch another cycling road race out along the highway from Ouyen to Patchewolock and back, a distance of 86 Kilometres.

 

Come Saturday 4th September, riders and followers have moved futher down the Murray River to a small historic river settlement of Merbein for a 30 Lap Criterium of the towns main business area. Followed during the afternoon by a Kermesse at Cardross during the afternoon. By now the weather had gone totally pear shaped, with the riders battling strong gusty winds and light showers.

In contrast Sunday, the last day of the 8 day Scody Cup event, was conducted under beautiful blue skies and near perfect racing conditions as riders made their way around a beautiful mix of river front and city streets course at Mildura. Competition was high as riders fought to cement their places in the 2010 Tour of the Murray River Cycling Classic.
